Up and down
Yes, I’ve read this in dozens of articles – the dips and peaks of being an entrepreneur. And I’ve spoken to many who’ve trod the path before – the manic highs and the soul-crushing lows were a repetitive thread in those many conversations as well. My friend Andrew said, “It’s very lonely. And it all comes down to you.”
Let me elaborate on the experience for me, thus far. It seems like an endless valley floor with a few peaks thrown in. It’s a long slog, a hard slog, and one easy to give up on. After all, who’s keeping count and holding accountability? Le tout – c’est de moi, c’est moi. The product development took months and finding the right suppliers and manufacturers some more than that. A long, pot-hole ridden journey, but one with a companion. Pato, the product guru. And when at last, we had the final products in our hands, the fulfillment lit the deep recesses of the soul.
And now I am out selling. Neither a forte, nor a previously used skill. And it is going to be another long, hard slog. Another walk on that crater-ridden valley floor.
The picture is from the Glass Window Bridge on Eleuthera. The choppy Atlantic on the one side – a pictorial representation of my entrepreneurial life, and the calm, serene and breathtaking beauty of the Caribbean sea on the other – my family, my home and my village.
